If you know the song "American Woman" by the Guess Who (from my home town of Winnipeg Manitoba Canada) you will quickly realize that I wrote this poem/song to its tune. Hope this blesses you.

Samaritan Woman - John 4:7-42

Samaritan woman, please fetch me some water

Samaritan woman, it’ll only get hotter

One thing to you I will tell

Anyone who comes to drink from this well

They will only thirst again

To understand this don’t take no brain

Now woman, come and hear

Samaritan woman, come right near

Samaritan woman, five husbands you’ve had

Samaritan woman, number six you’ve not wed

A prophet is what you think I am

But I am truly the son of man

With your water you’ll thirst some more

But my living water gets you through Heaven’s door

Now woman, come and hear

Samaritan woman, come right near

Samaritan woman, two days I’ll stay

Samaritan woman, hear what I say

Worship the Father in spirit and truth

This is for all ages including the youth

The Messiah is who you want to see

I who speak to you am he

With your water you’ll thirst some more

But my living water gets you through Heaven’s door

Now woman, come and hear

Samaritan woman, come right near

Go, to your home town, to your home town, now go go go

You got to tell them woman

Go tell them woman

Believe, believe, believe, believe

They’ll believe in me

From what they hear from you

To those that believe they will receive

The salvation I gave to you

You know I’ll never leave

You know I’m right here

You know I’m here for you

You know I’ll never go, woman

I’ll never leave you, woman

Live on, Samaritan woman

This is so awesome!  What a gift, to tell this passage in the bible from a poetic stance:)
Thank you for your encouraging words and thanks for just reading my poem!! You never know whether anyone is actually even reading them, let alone liking what is being written. I wrote this 7 years ago when my son, who had just turned 16 at the time, challenged me to write some Biblically based words to an existing tune (he was big into the group Apologetix (sorry for the spelling if it is wrong) at the time, a group who rewrote many familiar songs with Christian themes). I may have said something to him like "I could do that". I had read the passage in John about Jesus and the Samaritan woman just days before this so it was fresh in my mind and I guess it sort of just fell into place. Thanks again Tina for taking time to respond and your kind words.

I remember the apologetics, my son got me listening to them when he was a teenager too(He's 25 now!) Amazing how God uses our kids to spur us on and to step out and try...my daughter ignited my passion to do so with my writing, enrolled in a correspondence course to develop my craft and hoping after that to take a creative writing class next at the local college. Writing has been my dream my whole life so....yay me! Godspeed;) One day I am writing a book about my testimony....God is calling me to that and has confirmed it over and over, now the hard work to bring it to fruition. Keep writing Brian, I for one am reading your pieces:)

Interesting and humourous while I can hear the song!
