Elizabeth, I totally understand where you are coming from. I attended a presbyterian church for almost three years and everytime i was there I just wanted to lift my hands and pray, just to show my affection to the LORD. But, i couldnt because that was not their method of worhsip! Hold on my freind, and i advice you to keep on praying that the LORD give your parents understanding of where you are coming from. What you are aking of them is GREAT!! You are not asking to go party or anything but to go to a church where you feel at HOME! You are an amazing child of GOD. Hold on because these things won't last forever! Wait on the LORD because he is yet to show you his miracoulous way! Keep trusting and keep the faith!

P.S Ask your school if they have a Kids for Christ program or a fellowish of christain athletes! B/C their method of worhsip is much like the ones we love!!

Dear Elizabeth, my friend, keep in mind that not everyone grows in the same church! My advice is to go where you faith grows, where you feel closer to GOD. Ultimately, your relationship with the LORD is more important, without him you wouldnt have your family in the first place. My mother, brother, and younger sister all go to one church, my dad and i go to another church, and my sister goes to a different one, not to mention my grandmother goes to another church hours away! We go where we feel at home because ultimately we are all worhsipping the same GOD, but environments matters. Go where when you are there you feel like lifting your hands and pouring out you heart to the LORD!!

Darlene, I 2nd Venissa's comments and also add that God will give you a way out of what is bringing you down. I found that God really helped me when I surrounded myself with Christians that were stronger than I was. It is hard to find sometimes, but they are out there. This helps with accountability. I also try not to go places that I know are places that I will face strong temptation. I try not to be around people or guys that don't respect me and what God wants for me. The temptations are thrown into our faces everyday all day, but God wants us to focus on Him and then resisting will not be so hard. In fact, we will be so honored and loved in our relationship with Him that the temporary sinful pleasures of this life will seem like what they are...toxins in our life. Just keep trying and pray that God will give you the strength you need to make this change in your life. You are a precious daughter of the King! Prayers sent for you!

Hi Darlene,

I just joined Keep the Faith and I was reading your post. I really understand how you feel about wanting to stop sinning but not having the power to do so. And I can definitely relate to some of your experiences, especially with craving attention from guys. I just want you to know that there is hope if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior.

The apostle Paul in the Bible also went through what you're experiencing. If you read Romans 7:7-25, he talks about his own personal struggle with sin. He says: "What I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do." Paul explains that when it gets to the point where you are overwhelmed by sin, it is no longer you who is doing it, but it is the sin living in you who does it. As long as we live on this earth, we will constantly be tempted to commit sin and sometimes, unfortunately, we will fall into temptation.

But here's the good news, Paul reminds us in Romans 7:24-25 that Jesus Christ is the only one who can save us from this life of sin. I know that you want to please God, but your will power alone is not enough to save you from sin. You need the power of God, and that has been given to you already through the blood of Jesus.

I want to challenge you to ask yourself why you do what you do. If you have been seeking for attention from guys, why? Is it because they make you feel visible, pretty, or is because you just want to be loved and comforted? For me it was because I never really had a close relationship with my father and I wanted a guy, any guy, to take his place and give me the love I was craving for from my dad. But they never gave me their love, they took advantage of me and left once they got what they wanted. But thank God that he showed me that he can be everything I always wanted and more. God is my father and he has placed godly men in my life who mentor me and give me healthy attention by encouraging me in my faith.

I believe that we don't behave a certain way for no reason; there is always a reason for why we do what we do. It's like the reason is the seed and the behavior is the fruit. I'm encouraging you to confess your sins and ask God to show you want makes you crave attention from guys or why you have been drinking and smoking. When you find out what these seeds are, God will give you the grace you need to uproot them.

I also encourage you to spend more time planting new seeds into your spirit by meditating on the Word, praying, going to church, talking to a friend about the love of God, listening to your favorite gospel artists, or reading a Christian book that encourages you to love God more. You are not going to change overnight, because just like planting an apple tree, change is a long process. But I promise you that when God starts a good work in you he will complete it. He's doing it for me and he'll do it for you. Be patient with yourself and know that I am praying for you. God Bless!

Hey guys! my name is Darlene & i just joined this webpage. I heard about it on the radio and thought I'd give it a try. Recently I've been struggling with a lot of temptations through sex, having attention from guys, and drinking/ smoking. I've been partying a lot which I know is something that doesn't praise God at all, but I can't stop. I just need some help and wise words. I seem to be in the middle all the time. It's like I'm being pulled back and forth between my faith & this world. Please help. Thank you & God bless <3
