Some exciting discoveries in biblical archaeology!

Biblical archaeology is the science of investigating and recovering remains of past cultures that can validate, or at least shed new light on, the biblical narrative. Biblical archaeology involves the study of architecture, language, literature, art, tools, pottery and many other items that have survived the ravages of time. For almost two hundred years, those who study biblical archaeology have been working in the Middle East in their quest to recover the past. There have been…

Luke Got His Facts Straight

Recently someone said to me, "history is history".  I think he meant that history is just the facts, not conjecture.  It struck me because there are skeptics of history who think we can know almost nothing about the past.  Apparently this person was not one of those. Since it was not the main thread of our discussion I took it at face value.  But if this is even a partly true…

Texting not talking( Talking vs Texting) 話して詩のテキスト メッセージ ( T_T)\(^-^ )

The loss of confrontation skills

My phone goes off. I don’t look up from what I’m doing. I know that it isn’t a phone call. I know that no parent of a youth or parishioner is trying to call me. I can guess with very little chance of being wrong that it is a text message. From one of my youth that is understandable: it’s how they communicate and how I communicate with them.…

Symbolic Mountains(象徴的な山)

Symbolic mountains(象徴的な山)

What is the relation between the characteristics of the mountains of the promised land, and their use as symbols in prophecy?

予言にシンボルとして約束の地の山の特性とその使用の関係は何ですか。

In Psalm 114, David said that the mountains "skipped like lambs" and little hills, "like lambs," when Israel went out of Egypt. How did the mountains skip? These cannot be literal mountains. They would have to become airborne, if they were to literally skip like… Continue

Psalms 120-134: The Pilgrim Psalms 詩篇

The Story

Primary

The Psalms are songs. They were sung by the people in their homes and by the choirs in the temple in Jerusalem. Some Psalms were sung by pilgrims journeying up to Jerusalem and the temple. Many people from all parts of the Holy Land journeyed up to the great city each year to the feasts, especially to the Passover in the spring and to the Feast of Tabernacles, the harvest feast in the autumn. At these seasons, companies of happy people from one town and… Continue

Offerings in Leviticus—What They Were and Why They Mattered

For most Christians, the book of Leviticus is as untraveled as the wilderness in which Moses wrote it.

It’s not hard to understand why. I mean, who cares about sacrifices no longer needed or diet codes no longer in effect? Can they teach us anything today?

In a word: plenty.

"Why is God going to give us a white stone with a new name (Revelation 2:17)?"

In the Bible, there is only one reference to God giving us a white stone with a new name: “To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it” (Revelation 2:17).

The meaning of the white stone is a mystery to Bible scholars. However, several interpretations have been offered:

• In ancient Greece, jury members would cast a white stone to signify… Continue
